About the Downer EDI Group

For 50 years, Downer Energy Systems (formerly Evans Deakin Energy Systems) have been providing turnkey design and construct solutions for the Power Generation industry.

The company, founded in 1911, began its strong involvement with power generation in 1948 on the Bulimba Power Station in Brisbane. Since then we have been responsible for the balance of plant for 29 power station units amounting to over 9000 MW of generation capacity.

These units have been designed, fabricated constructed and commissioned in-house by the various divisions of Evans Deakin under the direction of Energy Systems.

In 2001 Evans Deakin merged with the Downer group of companies and Evans Deakin Energy Systems became Downer Energy Systems. This merged entity now provide unparalleled in-house capacity for delivery of power generation projects including:

  • Civil design and construction
  • Steam Cycle design
  • Component design and manufacture
